The Delay of The Nintendo 3DS

Yesterday the tech news was buzzing about the fact that the much anticipated Nintendo 3DS will be postponed until a March release. The 3DS is a Nintendo DSi that the bottom screen is ripped out and inserted is a glasses-free 3d screen. On the exterior of the system a 3d camera is also added so the user can take 3d pictures. Originally seen at E3 a big gaming conference earlier this year the 3DS although not announced by Nintendo the media in the gaming market assumed that the 3DS would make an appearance in time for the holiday season. As of last week we learned that the highly anticipated 3DS will not make it out for market in time for a holiday season release. Analysts say this will kill Nintendo’s ever shrinking gaming market share. Without going into too much detail, the mobile gaming platform is being dominated by cell phone and other music players. Ever since the rise of applications for mobile devices like the iPhone and iPod touch the sales of single purpose gaming platforms wile the DS and the PSP have been declining. The 3DS could jump start those sales because it would bring a feature (3D) that no other mobile device could bring. As of today we learned that the 3DS will go on sale in Japan in march for the equivalent of 300 dollars, there is no conformed price or release date for the states though but at 300 dollars that would be one of the most expensive mobile gaming platforms of all time.
